# Compress Photo to 50 KB

Online application forms for jobs, exams and government services, especially in India, often want a photo under 50 KB. Get your picture under the limit in seconds while keeping as much detail as possible.

How it works: the tool searches for the highest quality that fits and keeps that version. If even low quality is too big, it reduces the dimensions step by step and tries again. Sizes count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, slightly stricter than 1,024, so the file fits either way. The new file carries no EXIF data (no location or camera details).

## How to Make a Photo Under 50 KB

The 50 KB limit is already selected, so most photos need just one drop.

Step 1

Keep "Under 50 KB" selected. Set an exact width and height if your form asks for them.

Step 2

Drop, paste or choose your photo. It's compressed straight away.

Step 3

Check the size and dimensions shown, then download the JPG.

## Tips for a Clear Photo Under 50 KB

Small changes before you compress make the 50 KB go much further.

### Crop to Head and Shoulders

Most forms want a passport-style framing anyway, and a tighter crop leaves more bytes for your face.

### Use a Plain Background

A plain, light wall compresses far better than a busy room, so more of the limit goes to detail that matters.

### Set the Required Dimensions

Enter the width and height the form lists under Exact size, then choose crop to fill or fit inside.

## Why Compress Your Photo Here

It works on your own device, so your face and documents stay with you.

### Your Photo Stays Put

Compression happens in the browser tab. The photo itself is never uploaded.

### No Quality Guessing

Instead of trying settings by hand, the tool finds the best quality that lands under 50 KB.

### Straight From Your Phone

Works in mobile browsers, including iPhone HEIC photos, so you can fill in a form from your phone.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How do I get a passport-size photo under 50 KB?

Crop it to your head and shoulders, keep "Under 50 KB" selected, and drop the photo in. If the form gives dimensions, enter them under Exact size first. The tool then finds the highest quality that fits and shows the final size before you download.

### Does it change my photo's dimensions?

Only if it has to. It first lowers the quality at the current size. If that still doesn't fit, it shrinks the width and height step by step. With an exact size set, it keeps those dimensions and only adjusts quality.

### Why does my file show as 48.8 KB instead of 50 KB?

The tool keeps files at or under 50,000 bytes. The results list counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so 50,000 bytes shows as about 48.8 KB. Either way the file is under 50 KB, and the exact byte count is shown under each file name.

### Should I save as JPG or WebP?

Use JPG unless the form says it accepts WebP. Almost every application portal takes JPG, while WebP is newer and often refused.

### Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Your photo is compressed in your browser and stays on your device. When your browser can't handle a format itself, such as HEIC outside Safari, the page downloads a decoder or encoder from dragbin.com, but your photo is never sent anywhere.
