# MP3 Cutter: Trim Audio and Make Ringtones Free

Pick the part of a song, podcast or voice memo you want on a waveform, then keep it or cut it out. Save it as MP3, WAV, AAC, Opus or an iPhone ringtone, all inside your browser.

Drop an audio file here, or click to choose

MP3 encoding by [LAME](https://lame.sourceforge.io/) ([LGPL](https://lame.sourceforge.io/license.txt)), loaded as a separate file only when needed.

AAC encoding (in browsers without a built-in AAC encoder) by [FFmpeg's libavcodec](https://ffmpeg.org/) ([LGPL-2.1-or-later](https://ffmpeg.org/legal.html)), loaded as a separate file only when needed.

## How to Cut an MP3

Open a file, mark the part you want, and save it.

Step 1

Drop, paste or pick one audio file, or a video whose sound you want.

Step 2

Drag the handles under the waveform or type exact times, play the selection, and choose Keep or Remove.

Step 3

Pick an output format and optional fades, press Cut, then listen and download.

## Why Use This MP3 Cutter?

It's built for the two jobs people do most: trimming a clip and making a ringtone.

### MP3 Trims Without Re-encoding

Keep a part of an MP3 as MP3 and the original frames are copied instead of re-encoded; the result tells you when that happened.

### iPhone Ringtones

Save as .m4r with the 40-second limit iPhone uses already applied to your selection.

### See What You Cut

A waveform with a moving playhead shows where the selection starts and ends before you commit.

## Your Audio Stays on Your Device

Recordings can be personal. This tool works on them inside your browser tab.

### No Uploads

Your file is never sent to a server. For MP3 or AAC output the page may download an encoder from dragbin.com the first time.

### Keep or Remove

Keep just the selection, or cut it out and join the rest with a short crossfade so there's no click.

### Mouse, Touch or Keyboard

Drag the handles, use the arrow keys, or type times down to the millisecond.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The waveform, the cut and the encoding all run inside your browser tab, and your file never leaves your device. The first time you save as MP3 or AAC, the page may download an encoder from dragbin.com; that's code coming to you, not your audio going out.

### Does cutting an MP3 lower its quality?

Not when you keep a selection from an MP3, save it as MP3 and add no fades. The tool then copies the original MP3 frames without re-encoding, and the result says so. The start can move by a few hundredths of a second to land on a frame boundary. Removing a section, adding fades or changing the format means the audio is decoded and encoded again, which is a small quality loss for MP3, AAC and Opus but none for WAV.

### How do I make an iPhone ringtone?

Pick "iPhone ringtone (.m4r)" as the output and select up to 40 seconds, which is the longest ringtone iPhone accepts; the selection is limited to 40 seconds while that format is chosen. The file is AAC audio in an .m4r file. To use it, copy it to your iPhone with Finder on a Mac or iTunes on Windows (or import it with GarageBand on the phone), then choose it under Settings, Sounds & Haptics, Ringtone.

### What does Remove selection do?

It cuts the selected part out and joins what came before and after it. The join gets a 10 millisecond crossfade so there's no click where the two parts meet. Because the audio has to be decoded for this, the result is limited to 20 minutes on computers and 5 minutes on phones and tablets.

### Which files can I cut?

MP3, M4A and AAC, WAV, FLAC, Ogg and Opus files, plus the soundtrack of MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM videos. Files can be up to 2 GB on a computer and 500 MB on a phone or tablet. FLAC is saved as WAV by default because the browser has no FLAC encoder.

### Why doesn't it work in my browser?

Drawing the waveform and re-encoding use the browser's built-in audio decoders and encoders (WebCodecs). Current Chrome, Edge and Firefox on computers have them, and Safari has them from version 26. Older Safari and Firefox for Android can only open WAV files.
