# Normalize Audio Loudness to LUFS

Bring tracks, episodes and voice notes to one consistent loudness. Pick a target such as −14 LUFS for streaming or −16 LUFS for podcasts, and each file is measured and adjusted right in your browser.

Normalization settingsNormalize byLoudness (LUFS)Peak level (dBFS)Save asSame as inputMP3WAV (16-bit)Target loudness−14 LUFS - Spotify, YouTube−16 LUFS - Podcasts, Apple−23 LUFS - EBU R128 broadcastCustomTrue-peak ceiling (dBTP)

Each file gets one fixed gain so it lands on the target. If that would push peaks above the ceiling, the gain is reduced instead and the file is marked "limited by peak".

About the figures: "After" values describe the adjusted audio before it's encoded. MP3, AAC and Opus encoding can move peaks by a few tenths of a dB, which is why the default ceiling leaves 1 dB of headroom. True peak is estimated with 4x oversampling. Files longer than 20 minutes are skipped, because the whole track is held in memory while it's processed.

## How to Normalize Audio

Choose a target, add your files, and download the adjusted copies.

Step 1

Pick a loudness target (or peak mode) and an output format.

Step 2

Drop, paste or choose your audio files. Each one is measured and adjusted in turn.

Step 3

Check the before and after figures, preview the result, and download it.

## Why Use This Loudness Normalizer?

Platforms judge loudness by LUFS, not by peaks. This tool measures the same way and shows you exactly what it changed.

### Measured to BS.1770

Integrated loudness uses K-weighting, 400 ms blocks and the −70 LUFS and −10 LU gates from ITU-R BS.1770-4 and EBU R128.

### No Clipped Peaks

A true-peak ceiling (−1 dBTP by default) caps the gain, so a loud target never pushes peaks into distortion.

### Whole Batches

Normalize an album or a season of episodes to the same level in one go, then download them as a zip.

## Your Audio Stays on Your Device

Unreleased mixes and private recordings shouldn't need an upload just to fix their volume.

### No Uploads

Every step runs in this browser tab. The only downloads are encoders, fetched from dragbin.com the first time you save MP3 (or AAC, in browsers without their own AAC encoder).

### Format Kept

MP3 stays MP3 and M4A stays M4A, or switch to MP3, WAV, AAC or Opus while you're at it.

### Desktop or Phone

Works in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and in Safari 26 or later on Mac, iPhone and iPad.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What does normalizing audio to a LUFS target do?

It measures how loud the whole track sounds, in LUFS (loudness units relative to full scale), then turns the volume up or down by a single fixed amount so it lands on the level you picked. Nothing is compressed or reshaped: the quiet and loud parts keep the same balance they had before. The measurement follows ITU-R BS.1770-4, the method EBU R128 is built on, including its 400 ms blocks and its −70 LUFS and −10 LU gates.

### Which loudness target should I choose?

Pick −14 LUFS for music headed to Spotify or YouTube, which play tracks back at about that level. Pick −16 LUFS for podcasts and spoken word; it's the level most podcast guidelines, Apple's included, recommend. Pick −23 LUFS when a broadcaster asks for EBU R128. If you were given a different number, choose Custom and type it in.

### Why does a file say "limited by peak"?

Reaching the target would have pushed the loudest peaks above the true-peak ceiling (−1 dBTP unless you change it), which risks clipping once the file is played or re-encoded. Instead of distorting the audio, the tool raises it only as far as the ceiling allows, so it ends up a little quieter than the target. The results show how far it got. Getting closer would need a limiter or compressor in an audio editor.

### Are my audio files uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding, measuring, adjusting and re-encoding all happen in your browser tab, and your audio is never sent to a server. The first time you save MP3, the page downloads an MP3 encoder (LAME) from dragbin.com, and in browsers without a built-in AAC encoder, such as Firefox, saving AAC also downloads FFmpeg's AAC encoder from dragbin.com. Those are program code coming to your device; your audio never goes the other way.

### Is there a length limit?

Yes: up to 20 minutes per file on a computer, and 5 minutes on a phone or tablet. To measure and adjust a track, the whole thing is decoded into memory (about 23 MB per stereo minute), and longer files can run a browser tab out of memory, especially on mobile.

### Which browsers does it work in?

Current Chrome, Edge and Firefox on a computer, and Chrome on Android. On iPhone, iPad and Mac it needs Safari 26 or later; older Safari and Firefox for Android can still normalize WAV files but not MP3, AAC or other compressed formats.
