## How to Optimize Images for Your Website

Pick a maximum size, then let the preset do the rest:

Step 1

Choose the longest side you need (1920 px suits most full-width images) and WebP or AVIF.

Step 2

Drop your images. Each one is resized, re-encoded and compared with the original.

Step 3

Download files one by one or all together as a zip, ready to upload to your site.

## Why Use a Web Optimization Preset?

Camera and phone photos are often several times larger than a web page needs. This tool applies one sensible preset to a whole batch, so you don't have to tune quality sliders file by file. If you want manual control over format and quality, use the Image Compressor instead.

### Right-Sized Dimensions

Images wider or taller than your chosen limit are scaled down. Smaller images keep their size.

### Modern Formats

WebP at quality 78 by default, or AVIF for even smaller files where your audience's browsers support it.

### Never Bigger

If the optimized file would be the same size or larger, you get the original back and the row says so.

## Benefits of Optimizing Images in Your Browser

Your images are processed on your own device and never uploaded. Re-encoding also leaves behind the hidden metadata cameras attach to photos.

### Nothing Uploaded

Decoding, resizing and encoding all happen in your browser. Your images never reach a server.

### EXIF and GPS Removed

Optimized files contain only pixels, so camera details and location data are dropped. Photos are rotated upright first.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What does the web optimizer do to each image?

It scales the image down so its longest side is no more than the size you pick (1920 px by default, smaller images are never enlarged), then re-encodes it as WebP at quality 78, or as AVIF if you choose it. You see the original size, the new size and the percentage saved for every file.

### How is this different from the Image Compressor?

The Image Compressor gives you manual control over format and quality for each job. This tool is a fixed, website-ready preset: resize, convert to a modern format and go, with no settings to tune beyond the maximum size and WebP or AVIF.

### Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are decoded, resized and encoded in your browser and never sent to a server. If you pick AVIF, or your browser can't encode WebP itself, an encoder file is downloaded from dragbin.com the first time, but your images stay on your device.

### Does it remove EXIF and GPS data?

Yes for every optimized file. Re-encoding through a canvas writes only pixels, so camera details, GPS location and other EXIF metadata are left out. Orientation is applied to the pixels first, so photos stay the right way up. If a file is kept as the original because the optimized version was bigger, its metadata is unchanged.

### Why did a file keep its original version?

The tool never hands you a bigger file. If the WebP or AVIF result is the same size or larger than what you dropped in, which can happen with images that are already small and well compressed, the original file is kept and marked as such.

### Is there a size limit?

Each file can be up to 100 MB and up to 64 megapixels. Larger images can exhaust memory on phones, especially iOS Safari, so they are skipped with a message instead of producing a blank result.
