# Split Video into Parts: Cut for Reels and Stories

Cut one video into equal parts, into clips of a fixed length such as 15 or 60 seconds, or at the exact moments you pick. It runs in your browser, so the footage never leaves your device.

AAC encoding (in browsers without a built-in AAC encoder) by [FFmpeg's libavcodec](https://ffmpeg.org/) ([LGPL-2.1-or-later](https://ffmpeg.org/legal.html)), loaded as a separate file only when needed.

## Split it for sharing, keep the full take safe

Short parts are for posting; the original recording is the one worth keeping. Store it in DragBin, encrypted on your device before it's uploaded. DragBin protects files with [client side](/client-side-encryption/), [quantum resistant encryption](/post-quantum-encryption/) (ML-KEM + AES-256) keeping sensitive data private with a [zero knowledge](/zero-knowledge-encryption/) security architecture.

## How to Split a Video

Add the video, choose how to cut it, and save the parts.

Step 1

Drop, paste or choose one video: MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM or MPEG-TS.

Step 2

Split into equal parts, every so many seconds, or at split points you place on the timeline. Pick Fast or Precise.

Step 3

Download each part on its own, or all of them in one zip.

## Why Use This Video Splitter?

Three ways to cut, and a clear choice between speed and frame accuracy.

### Social Lengths in One Click

Presets for 15-second Stories and 60-second Reels and Shorts, or type any length as minutes:seconds.

### Fast Lossless Copy

Fast mode copies the original data, so parts are ready in seconds at full quality. Cuts land on keyframes and the results say exactly where.

### Frame-Exact When It Matters

Precise mode re-encodes the picture so every part starts and stops on the frame you chose.

## Your Footage Stays With You

Family clips, client work and unreleased edits are private. The splitting happens on your own device.

### No Uploads

The video is cut inside your browser tab. At most, the page fetches an audio encoder from dragbin.com in Precise mode; your video is never sent anywhere.

### Numbered Parts

holiday.mp4 becomes holiday-part01.mp4, holiday-part02.mp4 and so on, in the same format as the original.

### Computer or Phone

Works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Phones and tablets take videos up to 500 MB.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is read and cut inside your browser tab and is never sent to a server. In Precise mode, browsers without a built-in AAC audio encoder (Firefox, and Chrome or Edge on most Linux systems) may download an encoder file from dragbin.com the first time it's needed. Only that encoder is downloaded; your video stays on your device.

### What's the difference between Fast and Precise?

Fast copies the original video data without re-encoding, so it finishes in seconds and loses no quality. A compressed video can only start cleanly on a keyframe, though, so each part begins at the nearest keyframe at or before your cut and may include up to a few seconds extra; the results list shows where each part really starts. In MP4 and MOV files most players skip that extra lead-in and start at your cut. Precise re-encodes the video so every part starts and ends on the exact frame, which takes longer and needs a browser that can decode the video.

### How do I split a video for Instagram Stories, Reels or YouTube Shorts?

Choose "Every" and pick the 15 s preset for Stories or 60 s for Reels and Shorts, or type any length as minutes:seconds. Each part is saved with a numbered name such as holiday-part01.mp4, so they stay in order when you post them. Check each platform's current length limit before uploading, as they change.

### Which formats work, and what format are the parts?

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and MPEG-TS videos can be split, and each part keeps the same format as the original. AVI, WMV, FLV and MPG files can't be read in the browser. Fast mode works even when your browser can't decode the video's codec (for example HEVC in Firefox), because it only copies data; Precise needs Chrome, Edge, Firefox on a computer, or Safari 16.4 or later.

### How many parts can I make, and how big can the video be?

Up to 50 parts, each at least 1 second long. The video can be up to 2 GB on a computer and 500 MB on a phone or tablet, because every part is built in your browser's memory before you save it.

### Will the sound stay in sync?

Yes. Audio and video are cut together. The audio is copied as it is whenever the format allows, so its quality doesn't change. If your browser can't process the audio track (Safari before version 26 in Precise mode, for example), the page tells you a part was saved without sound instead of failing silently.
