## How to Convert Stereo to Mono

Choose how the channels are combined, add your files, and save the results.

Step 1

Pick a mode: mix both channels, or keep only the left or the right one.

Step 2

Drop, paste or choose your audio files. They're converted one after another.

Step 3

Listen to the result, then download each file or all of them as a zip.

## Why Use This Stereo to Mono Tool?

It handles the common cases without making you open an audio editor.

### Mix or Pick a Side

Average both channels, or rescue a recording where only one side has the voice on it.

### Batch Friendly

Add a stack of files and download every mono copy together in one zip.

### Same Format Back

MP3 stays MP3 and WAV stays WAV where the browser can write it; otherwise you choose.

## Your Recordings Stay on Your Device

Interviews and voice memos are often private. This tool processes them locally in your browser.

### No Uploads

Audio is decoded and re-encoded in the browser tab. For MP3 output, and for AAC in browsers without their own AAC encoder, the page downloads an encoder from dragbin.com the first time it is needed.

### Long Files Welcome

Mixing streams the audio through the encoder instead of loading it all into memory at once.

### Desktop or Phone

Works in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and in Safari 26 or later.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What's the difference between mixing and keeping one channel?

Mixing averages the left and right channels into one, so everything in the recording stays audible. Keeping the left or right channel throws the other side away, which is useful when only one side has the sound you want, such as an interview recorded with one microphone per channel.

### Why does my mono file sound quieter or hollow?

If the two channels are out of phase, for example from a wide stereo effect or a reversed microphone cable, adding them together makes parts of the sound cancel out. That can make the mix quieter or thin. If that happens, try keeping only the left or right channel instead.

### Are my audio files uploaded?

No. Your files are processed in your browser tab and never sent to a server. For MP3 output the page downloads an MP3 encoder (LAME) from dragbin.com the first time it's needed, and for AAC output in browsers without a built-in AAC encoder, such as Firefox, it downloads one based on FFmpeg the same way.

### What format will the mono file be in?

By default it matches the original when the browser can write that format: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC or Opus. Formats it can't write, like FLAC or audio inside a video file, are saved as MP3. You can also pick the output format yourself.

### What happens if a file is already mono?

Nothing is re-encoded. The file is marked as already mono and the original is offered for download unchanged, so it still ends up in your zip.

### Which browsers does it work in?

Current Chrome, Edge and Firefox on computers, Chrome on Android, and Safari 26 or later. Older Safari and Firefox for Android can't decode audio in the page, so only WAV files work there. Keeping one channel is limited to 20 minutes of audio on computers and 5 minutes on phones; mixing has no length limit beyond file size.
