## How to Convert and Sync Subtitles

Three steps, no install and no account:

Step 1

Drop, paste or choose one or more subtitle files. The format is read from the contents.

Step 2

Pick the output format and, if needed, shift the timing, change the frame rate or set two sync points.

Step 3

Check the cue preview, then download the file, or a ZIP when you converted several.

## Why Convert or Re-Time Subtitles?

Every player and platform has its favourite subtitle format, and a file made for one release of a film is often a second off for another. A quick conversion or sync saves you from editing hundreds of timestamps by hand.

### The Right Format

Web players want WebVTT, most TVs and desktop players want SRT, and styled anime releases use ASS.

### Lines in Sync

Move every line by a fixed offset, convert between frame rates, or stretch timing between two known points.

### Readable Accents

Legacy-encoded files are detected and can be re-read in the right encoding, then saved as UTF-8.

## Private and Fast by Design

Subtitle files are small text files, so the converter reads and rewrites them right in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded and results appear as soon as you change a setting.

### Nothing Uploaded

Files are read and converted locally and never sent to a server.

### Preview Before Saving

See every cue with its new start and end time before you download anything.

### Batch Friendly

Convert a whole season at once and download the results together as a ZIP.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Which subtitle formats can I convert?

You can open SRT, WebVTT (.vtt), ASS/SSA and YouTube SBV files, and save to SRT, VTT, ASS, SBV or plain TXT. The format is worked out from the file's contents, so a subtitle file with the wrong extension still opens correctly.

### Are my subtitle files uploaded?

No. Files are read and converted by JavaScript in your browser tab, and the converted file is created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

### My subtitles are out of sync. Which sync option should I use?

If every line is early or late by the same amount, use Shift and enter the offset in seconds (a minus sign moves lines earlier). If the subtitles drift further out of sync as the video goes on, they were probably timed for a different frame rate, so try a frame-rate preset such as 23.976 to 25 fps. If you're not sure, use two-point sync: enter when the first and last lines should appear and every line in between is spread to match.

### Why do accented letters look wrong, and how do I fix it?

Older subtitle files are often saved in a legacy encoding such as Windows-1252 or Windows-1250 instead of UTF-8. The converter reads UTF-8 and UTF-16 automatically and falls back to Windows-1252 when a file isn't valid UTF-8. If letters still look wrong, choose the file's encoding from the Text encoding menu and the preview updates straight away. Converted files are always saved as UTF-8.

### What is lost when converting between formats?

The dialogue text and timing are always kept, along with italic, bold and underline where the target format supports them. ASS styling such as positions, colours and fonts is removed, and WebVTT cue settings, STYLE and REGION blocks are dropped. SBV and TXT are plain text, so they keep no formatting. The tool tells you when something was removed.

### Can I convert several subtitle files at once?

Yes. Add as many files as you like, pick the output format and timing fix, and download them together as a ZIP. Two-point sync needs times for one specific file, so it's available when a single file is loaded.
