Note: your video is never uploaded. Fast mode only copies data and loads nothing extra. In Precise mode, if the audio has to be re-encoded and the browser has no AAC encoder of its own, the page downloads one from dragbin.com the first time.

AAC encoding (in browsers without a built-in AAC encoder) by [FFmpeg's libavcodec](https://ffmpeg.org/) ([LGPL-2.1-or-later](https://ffmpeg.org/legal.html)), loaded as a separate file only when needed.

## Why Use This Video Trimmer?

It cuts without re-encoding when it can, and tells you exactly what you got.

### Lossless Fast Cuts

Fast mode copies the original video and audio data, so a cut takes seconds and the picture isn't compressed again.

### Frame-Accurate When Needed

Precise mode re-encodes the video so the clip starts on exactly the frame you picked.

### Same Format Out

MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM files come back in the format they went in, named name-trimmed.

## Your Footage Stays on Your Device

Family clips, client work and screen recordings are private. This trimmer never sends them anywhere.

### No Uploads

The video is cut inside your browser tab. In Precise mode some browsers download an AAC encoder from dragbin.com once; your video is never sent.

### Works on Phones Too

Fast mode runs in every current browser, including Safari on iPhone and Firefox for Android.

### Honest Results

After each cut the page reads the new file back and shows its real length and where it starts.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is read and cut inside your browser tab and never sent to a server. In Precise mode, browsers without their own AAC audio encoder (Firefox and most Linux browsers) may download one from dragbin.com the first time it's needed. Only the encoder is downloaded; your video stays on your device.

### What's the difference between Fast and Precise?

Fast copies the original video and audio data without re-encoding, so it takes seconds and loses no quality. A copied cut has to begin on a keyframe, so the start can land up to a few seconds before the time you chose. Precise re-encodes the video so the cut starts on exactly the frame you picked, but it takes longer and the picture is compressed again. The audio is copied whenever it can be.

### Why does my Fast trim start a little early?

Compressed video stores full pictures only at keyframes, often every 2 to 10 seconds, and the frames in between depend on them. Without re-encoding, a cut can only begin at a keyframe. In MP4 and MOV files the extra frames are kept but marked to be skipped, so most players start at your chosen time; in MKV and WebM files the clip simply starts at the keyframe. After each trim the page tells you where the cut really starts.

### Which formats can I trim?

MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM come out in the same format they went in. Other videos the browser can read, such as MPEG-TS, are saved as MP4. AVI, WMV and FLV files can't be opened. Precise mode needs a browser that can decode the video's codec: HEVC (H.265) iPhone footage works in Safari, and in Chrome or Edge only with hardware support.

### Which browsers work?

Fast mode works in every current browser, including Firefox for Android and older Safari, because it only copies data. Precise mode needs WebCodecs video, which Chrome, Edge, desktop Firefox and Safari 16.4 or later have. Firefox for Android doesn't. On Safari before version 26, a Precise trim may come out silent if the audio has to be re-encoded; the page tells you when a track was left out.

### Is there a file size limit?

Videos can be up to 2 GB on a computer and 500 MB on a phone or tablet. The trimmed file is built in your browser's memory, so very long clips on a device with little memory can fail; try a shorter part or a computer if that happens.
