# Video Thumbnail Grid Maker: Contact Sheet from Any Video

Get the whole story of a video on one page: a grid of evenly spaced frames, each marked with its timestamp, topped with the file's duration, resolution and codecs. The frames are pulled out in your browser, so the video stays on your device.

## Why Use This Contact Sheet Maker?

A quick look at a whole video without scrubbing through it.

### Grids That Fit

3x3 up to 8 columns by 10 rows, with thumbnails 240, 320 or 480 pixels wide.

### Timestamps on Every Tile

Each thumbnail carries the time of the frame it shows, so you can jump straight to it later.

### File Details Up Top

An optional header lists the file name, duration, resolution, frame rate, size and codecs.

## Your Footage Stays Private

Rough cuts, client reviews and family videos don't need a stranger's server to get a preview sheet.

### No Uploads

Frames are decoded and drawn in this browser tab; the finished image is saved to your device.

### Desktop or Phone

Works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Phones handle files up to 500 MB.

### Sharp Text

Labels and header use plain system fonts drawn at full resolution, crisp in PNG output.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Is my video uploaded?

No. The frames are decoded and drawn onto the grid inside your browser tab, and the image is saved straight to your device. The video never leaves your computer or phone. If a file's format isn't supported, the page records only the codec and container names (not the file) so we know which formats to work on.

### How are the thumbnails chosen?

The video is split into as many equal slices as there are tiles, and each tile shows the frame from the middle of its slice. That spreads the thumbnails evenly and skips the very first and last instants, which are often black or a title card. Each timestamp label shows the time of the frame actually used.

### Why are my thumbnails smaller than the width I picked?

Browsers, iPhones and iPads especially, can't safely draw an image larger than about 16.7 megapixels. When a big grid at a large thumbnail width would pass that, the tool shrinks the thumbnails just enough to fit and tells you before you start.

### Should I save as PNG or JPG?

PNG keeps the timestamps and header text perfectly sharp but makes a larger file. JPG is much smaller and fine for sharing in chat or email; raise the quality if the text looks soft.

### Which videos and browsers work?

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and MPEG-TS files whose video your browser can decode, in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 16.4 or later. H.265/HEVC works in Safari and in Chrome or Edge on hardware that supports it, but not in Firefox. Firefox for Android can't decode video for web pages yet. Files up to 2 GB work on computers and up to 500 MB on phones and tablets.
